Enable Write Caching

This will show you how to enable write caching to have better performance for a storage device.

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. System and Security
  3. Device Manager
  4. expand Disk drives
  5. Double click on the listed storage device that you want to enable write caching for
  6. Click on the Polices tab
  7. By default, "Enable write caching on the device" is checked under the Write-caching policy section. If not, then check it
  8. Select (check) the "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on the device" box
  9. Click on OK
  10. Click on Yes to restart the computer to apply.

WARNING: Turning off "Windows Write-cache Buffer Flushing on the Device" runs the risk of data loss in case of a power failure without actually shutting down the machine.
